Chapter Two – Nearby Forest

So Olle, in his infinite eight-year-old wisdom, was too scared to stay in his room without his sister but he wasn’t scared enough not to go find her in the dark forest in the middle of the night, ha ha.

This game is so pretty. ❤

You know, most of the gaming industry utterly misunderstands cinematic camera. People think that cinematic camera means over-the-shoulder 360 camera but a real cinematic experience is fixed camera angles. This game also has this effect of blurring things that are far and unblurring them as you get closer. So this game is basically a real cinematic experience.

As an aside, I kind of wish that cinematic video games would let you skip boss battles because as much as I would like to replay this game ten times in a row I’m also not looking forward to certain bosses. Or boss.

There was no trace of Lillemor, and Olle wished he could ask the pinecones if they had seen her.

But if the pinecones knew about her fate, they kept it to themselves.

Aww. ❤

Don’t worry, Olle, the pinecones are mean anyway, ha ha.

So right after the walkable log, we find on a tree stump our very first pinecone art. I don’t think these are collectibles unless it’s a hidden achievement?

The second pinecone art is tucked away with the amanitas after the first ledge. You can see a hint of red in the left corner of the first picture.

Ha ha, this one is a direct re-enactment of something that happens later in the game.

The third pinecone art is in the apple clearing. You have to sit on the bench to find it.

After the clearing comes the tree house. On the worktable here, you can find the first of collectible wooden figures. I think you can find these before you meet the real thing they represent. I missed three on my first playthrough so I’ll need to keep that in mind if I want to find them all, ha ha.

The tree house also has these tools that imply that either Olle or Lillemor whittles as a hobby. Probably Olle because I don’t think Lillemor has the patience.

After this series of jumps comes the fourth pinecone art (which is kind of too dark and small to see but whatever). I kind of don’t know why I’m showing where to find these, though? I guess it’s okay?

On the right after the pinecones, there’s a roof with a hole in it. Olle needs to fall through so he can find this little glowing stone on a statue by the end.

Hiiii, Tuva. I didn’t realise the first time around. Thank you for your kind help. ❤

bramble_the_mountain_king_nearby_forest_moonlight

So pretty. ❤

bramble_the_mountain_king_nearby_forest_climbable_lichen

You know, a lot of adventure or exploration games give climbable ledges white or yellow paint. This game replaces the paint with lichen. It feels more in-game but I still find it funny.

Also, I don’t think lichen is actually climbable so don’t try this at home.

At the summit, there’s Lillemor finally.

I honestly really like stories about siblings or family who actually love each other because I think that’s rare. In most western fiction (which is an entirely separate thing from European fiction), the families are usually completely dysfunctional.

There’s a short minigame of learning how to aim and toss the stone. It’s not difficult because the game circles the target. I guess they kind of went out of their way to make this game easy to play?

Well, it’s okay. Not every game needs to be a challenge™.

They’re so cute. ❤

And then they fell down, ha ha.
